Student Leadership Academy Returns to National Summit 2026

Independent Sector invites faculty members and colleges and universities across the country to recommend students for the 2026 Student Leadership Academy (SLA), a one-day leadership development experience taking place Tuesday, October 13, in Phoenix ahead of Independent Sector’s National Summit.

Building on the success of our inaugural academy, which brought together 100 students from colleges and universities across the country, the Student Leadership Academy provides undergraduate and graduate students with a unique opportunity to explore careers in the charitable sector while developing practical leadership skills and expanding their professional networks.

Through interactive workshops, hands-on problem solving, and conversations with nonprofit and philanthropic leaders, students gain valuable experience and insight into the issues shaping the future of the sector.

To help ensure broad participation, Independent Sector will cover travel and lodging expenses for selected Student Leadership Academy participants. Students who wish to remain for Independent Sector’s National Summit 2026 will also have access to discounted registration rates, providing additional opportunities to engage with nonprofit and philanthropic professionals from across the country.

Independent Sector is particularly interested in partnering with faculty and institutions that are committed to preparing the next generation of leaders. Educators are encouraged to identify and recommend students who demonstrate a passion for service, social impact, and community leadership.

We invite colleges and universities interested in connecting their students to this transformational experience to contact us at summit@independentsector.org.
